Having a confident puppy will make it much easier to train him when he's older. And like humans, puppies grow in confidence because of the steps taken by their new owners when they are young. This article discusses simple ways you can do this.

Confident Puppies Learn New Tricks Faster

A puppy's self confidence is directly related to his ability to learn new things, including training protocols, later in life. Like humans, giving puppies a good self start will reap huge rewards later, for the both of you.

It is not difficult to develop a puppy's self confidence. Simply by spending time with him, and not isolating him for long periods of time, will do the trick.

Have your puppy in the kitchen with you when you do the dishes. They enjoy the company. As long as you're careful not to trip over him, this is perfectly fine.

Or, when you're reading or watching television, or on the computer, have your puppy beside you, or on the couch next to you. You don't have to give him your undivided attention, but do give him pats and talk to him periodically.

Puppies and cats respond well to being spoken to. Coo to them, or simply tell them what a good boy (or girl!) they are. Make sure you don't do this when they're misbehaving however, or you'll send mixed messages. The tone of voice you use, and the intention of what you're saying, will communicate to your puppy.

Leaving your puppy alone for long periods of time is not good for your puppy's development. This could be a problem for people who travel a lot, or work long hours. It does affect their self confidence.

Spending time with your puppy, grooming him whilst saying nice things to him, playing with him, will build a developmental basis such that your puppy will be able to learn things at a much faster rate when he is older.
